On Film: Florence
The story of my recent end-of-summer trip to Italy through the film photos I took in Florence and Cinque Terre.
My heart calls to this place often. For the slow pace and the passionate living. This is the story through photos of our time in Tuscany and Liguria late in the summer. Instead of going through an itinerary, I am going to arrange the photos I took throughout our trip in the order in which we experienced them and make comments about each of those places and how we experienced them. For those who are curious, when I say “we” I mean, my spouse and I. I hope you enjoy a taste of how these places felt through the images below.

We started our time in Florence where I had only previously spent one night in. Jason studied abroad in Tuscany and spent a week of his studies in Florence, so he was more familiar than I was. We spent three days in Florence and enjoyed every minute of it. I got diagnosed with Celiac Disease in December of 2020 and have not traveled internationally since, so this trip was a big deal for me. I found celiac-safe gluten-free eating to be incredibly easy in Florence. I did a lot of research ahead of time to know which restaurants to go to. It did not disappoint as I was able to eat things such as gelato (with gluten-free cones!!), gluten-free pizza, homemade gluten-free pasta, and tiramisu. I was in heaven and quite emotional about being able to eat my favorite foods here. And they were actually good!

Notable things we did in Florence: Statue of David and Accademia Gallery. Not overrated. Truly incredible.
-Aperitivo EVERY night for an Aperol Spritz. Duh.
-Getting lost in the streets. Notably, the Oltrarno neighborhood.
-Negronis at Harry’s Bar
-Sunset at Piazzo de Michaelangelo (crowded but worth it)
-Shopping at the leather markets
-Espressos in the morning at the bar
-Finding a wine window and drinking a glass of wine on the street!
-Sandwiches at All’antico Vinaio–there will be an insane line. Jason said it was worth it. I went nearby to Sgrano to get a gluten-free sandwich.
